Elsie Niemi, 95, of Marysville, died Friday, March 23, 2012.
She was born June 6, 1916 in London, Ontario to the late James and Ada Carter. She married Sulo A. “Soupie” Niemi on September 25, 1937 in Detroit. He died December 30, 1992.
Mrs. Niemi moved to Marysville following her husband’s retirement from the City of Detroit Police Department. She was a member of St. Martin Lutheran Church and volunteered at Mid City Nutrition. She was also a member of the Vivians of B.P.O.E. Lodge #343. She enjoyed crocheting and making cakes and loved to spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith (Ronald) Beller and Jeanette (Donald) Goddard; eight grandsons, Ronald (Susan) Beller, Michael (Angelica) Beller, Gregory (Louise) Beller, Adam (Sandy) Beller, Eric (Maria) Beller, D.J. (Sarah) Goddard, Scott (Kelly) Goddard and Matthew (Katie) Goddard; 16 great grandchildren and one on the way; and three great great grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by a great grandson, Ronald Beller III.
Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Marysville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012 in St. Martin Lutheran Church. Pastor Bill Austin will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Martin Lutheran Church.
