Elizabeth M "Betty" Bolton

September 1st, 1930 to July 27th, 2024
Obituary

Elizabeth Marie “Betty” (nee McGuckin, formerly Harrington) Bolton, entered Heaven’s paradise to our Lord Jesus Christ and all her loved ones on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the sweet age of 93.

Betty was born on September 1, 1930 in Detroit to the late Patrick and Mary McGuckin. The family moved to Ireland when Betty was 2 and remained there until returning to Detroit when she was 16.

Betty was employed with Mains Insurance Agency for many years prior to retirement. She was always involved in the community: a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, the St. Paschal’s Alter Society and League of Catholic Women, a 12-year American Red Cross volunteer, a Third Order religious education teacher, and leader of her daughter’s Blue Birds troop. She loved to talk and would often strike up conversations with total strangers, who surely enjoyed her Irish accent. She always said, “If you can’t find me, look for a group of people, and I’ll be the one in the middle talking.”

Betty and her dad took 5 trips back to Ireland together, and some of her fondest memories of those times were gathering sticks by the river. She also enjoyed many casino bus trips with her friend, Shirley.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth (David) Dupre and Brenda Harrington; eight grandchildren, Patrick, Rosanne, Steven, Brian, Chantel, Tristin, Treasure, and Hannah; five great grandchildren, Isabelle, Stevie, Logen, Emmett, and Blake; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, U.T. “Doc” Bolton; her first husband and friend, Bernard Harrington; two sons, Brian Harrington and infant Bernard Patrick III; grandson, Joseph “Joey” Condo; toddler sister, Sheila McGuckin; and brother, Patrick McGuckin.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Mrs. Bolton will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2024 in St. Christopher Catholic Church. The Reverend James Arwady will officiate.

Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
