William J Groff Sr

William Joseph James Groff, 80, of Kimball Township, died Friday, July 26, 2024.

He was born September 13, 1943 in St. Clair to the late Harvey F. and Frances E. Groff. He married Jean A. Siefert on July 28, 1970.

William worked as a union construction worker for many years, with Local 463 then Local 431 and Laborer’s Local 1191. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and drinking beer. William served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jean; son, William (Jennifer) Groff Jr.; grandchildren, Nicholas Vani (fianceé Kenzie Cusumano), Allison Groff (Jacob Seay) and Emerson Groff; great grandchildren, Weslynn and Charli Vani; nephews and niece; Tony Maraget, Michelle Rabine and Michael Maraget; and cousins, Rosemary Rich and Jim Novak. He was preceded in death by his sister, Harlene Maraget.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 in St. Mary Cemetery in St. Clair. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

A memorial event to celebrate William’s life will be held at a later date.
