Genevieve "Gen" Johnston

February 15th, 1931 to August 22nd, 2024

Genevieve N. “Gen” Johnston, 93, of Fort Gratiot, died Thursday, August 22, 2024.

She was born February 15, 1931 in Lexington to the late Henry and Velma Wideman. She married James R. Johnston on February 18, 1949 in Port Huron. He died July 10, 2010 after 61 years of marriage.

Mrs. Johnston was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church and was involved in many activities, including running the church pie sale for many years. She loved teaching children to swim in the pool. She served as a Boy Scout den mother and Campfire Girls leader. Gen was an amazing homemaker who could cook, sew, paint, wallpaper, quilt, cut hair and just about anything else that needed to be done around the house. Family was extremely important to her and they affectionately called her “the boss.”

She is survived by four children, John (Julie) Johnston, Philip (Melanie) Johnston, Annie (Brian) Karl and Vicky (Joseph) Marigold; a daughter-in-law, Clara Johnston; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Lilly. She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Johnston; two brothers; four sisters; a grandson, Jeff Karl; and a great great grandson, Anthony Johnston.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2024 in First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Drew Hart will officiate.
