Korine K Gilbert

December 29th, 1950 to September 1st, 2024

Korine Kay Gilbert, 73, of Port Huron, died Sunday, September 1, 2024.

She was born December 29, 1950 in Petoskey to the late Gordon and Marguerite Barber. Korine grew up in Royal Oak and worked as a CNA for many years in various healthcare settings. She met John Wayne Gilbert in 1980 and they spent 29 wonderful years together until his death on December 6, 2009.

A lifelong social butterfly, Korine enjoyed going to the community barbeques, picnics and BINGO games at Desmond Village where she currently lived, and rock hunting at the beach. She also dearly loved her church family at New Vision Church in West Moreland, Tennessee. She and John lived in Lafayette, Tennessee for several years prior to his death and she remained there until the desire to be near her family pulled her back home where she could be closer to her granddaughter that she so deeply adored. She was very proud of being a double breast cancer survivor and more recently, a pancreatic cancer survivor. While she lost the war due to surgery complications, Korine fought these battles with courage and strength.

She is survived by three children, Lynn Lawitzke, John (Ashley) Gilbert and Kristi (Andy) Brooks; a granddaughter, Brinnley; and many extended family and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brother, Greg Barber.

Private family services have been held.

Memorial contributions may be made to New Vision Church in West Moreland, Tennessee.
