Norman Weston
Norman Weston, 98, of Burtchville Township, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Marwood Manor in Port Huron.
He was born on June 24, 1926 in Sarnia, Ontario, to the late Arthur and Dora Weston (née Pugh). He married Hulda J. Farley on September 17, 1946. Hulda preceded him in death on January 20, 1996 after 49 years of marriage.
Norman is survived by his son, Norman II, daughter in law, Candace Weston (Brian Carrier), grandsons, Trevor (Sarah) and Joel Weston, and grandchildren, Lucille, Oliver, Rosalie and Eleanor. He was also preceded in death by his son James “Jim” Weston.
Norm grew up on a family farm on Keewhadin Road along with his parents and older brother, Alfred. He attended Port Huron area schools and served proudly in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theatre during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Newberry.
Norm and Hulda lived on Poplar Street in Port Huron for many years right next to the Blue Water Bridge where they raised their sons, Norman II (“Skeeter”) and James (“Jim”). Norm worked for many years in the soft drink industry, operating both the Faygo and Coca Cola bottling companies in Port Huron, Michigan until his retirement.
Norm was a gifted athlete throughout his life, pitching softball in the “over 40” men’s league on Michigan Road into his 70s and playing golf at Willow Ridge Golf Club into his early 90s. Norm and Hulda were avid bowlers and competed for many years in mixed events throughout the Port Huron area.
Norman was a long-devoted Detroit sports fan, especially of the Detroit Tigers. He was also a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #58 F.&A.M., Port Huron Moose Lodge #158, V.F.W. Charles Schoor Post #796, and American Legion J. Edward Mallorey Post #449.
Norm and his family are forever grateful for the caretaking provided over many years by his friends, Robert and Diane Leslie and Marlene and Kim which allowed him to continue to live independently as he strongly desired.
A Masonic Service and military honors will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery Chapel, Fort Gratiot Township.
