Bette Lou Donaldson
Bette Lou Donaldson, 83, of Avoca, went to be with our Lord Sunday, October 27, 2024 surrounded by her family.
She was born May 6, 1941 in Port Huron to the late Walter and Laura Peterson. She married Gary E. Donaldson on November 18, 1958 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2013 after 54 years of marriage.
Bette started her working career as a cook and manager at many area restaurants. Her favorite job was working at Michigan Nature Association which allowed her to travel and spend time enjoying the outdoors throughout Michigan. She later worked at Target as a cashier where she made many new friends.
Bette loved doing arts and crafts of all kinds and was an accomplished decorative painter and quilt maker. She also enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and traveling with her husband, Gary. One of her favorite memories was their 50th wedding anniversary trip to Alaska. Bette took delight in getting meals and sitting under the Blue Water Bridge to watch the freighters. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Joseph) Dams; son, Robert (Suzanne) Donaldson; daughter-in-law, Anne Donaldson; six grandchildren, Jennifer Jakubowski, Brianne (Dan) Patton, Shane Donaldson, Kerissa (Tiffany) Donaldson-Hipp; Daniel Donaldson and Jared Donaldson; five great grandchildren, Averie, Kennedy, Blakely, Emerson and Evelyn; and three siblings, Becky (Tom) Reilly, Susan (Jerry) Munro and John Peterson. She was preceded in death by her son, William "Bill" Donaldson; and four siblings, Duane, Ann, Judy and Tom.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2024 in Countryside Christian Church, Yale with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Rick Ferguson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Countryside Christian Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
