Joanne L Babcock

Joanne Laura Babcock, 96, of Port Huron passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, surrounded by many loved ones.

She was born on September 8, 1928 in Petrolia, Ontario, Canada to the late Lawrence and Irene Shain. Joanne married David Preston Babcock on June 4, 1949 in Royal Oak, Michigan. David preceded her in death on February 14, 2011 after 62 years of marriage.

Joanne was active in the Wesleyan church for many years and held the title of President for the Alliance (NAMI) of the Mentally Ill. Joanne was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, loved beautiful flowers, knitting afghans for friends and family, sewing, shopping, many very dear friendships and most of all she loved spending time with her entire family. She was incredibly patient, honest, kind, nurturing, forgiving and so tenderhearted to those who crossed her path. Joanne will always be our treasured family jewel, our real-life Queen. Joanne loved the Lord Jesus and she poured so much love into others. Her life and legacy will flow down into generations to come.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn (William) Kartheiser and Nancy (Gregory) Pelto; grandchildren, William Jr. (Lisa) Kartheiser, Elizabeth (Chad) Hutchinson, Christopher (Christine) Wybo, Holly Jo (Joseph) McKim, Jonathan (Katie) Wybo, Katherine (Matthew) Robinson, Matthew (Ashleigh) Pelto, Rachel (Mark) Estelle; and 18 great grandchildren, McKenna, Ella, Olivia, Mallory, Leah, Alexis, Averie, Brynnley, Brooklyn, Jameson, Joseph, Isla, Eleni, Paxton, Kailyx, Beckham, Henry and baby Phoenix. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Craig Preston Babcock; and her cherished great grandson, Maximus Mason Robinson.

Joanne’s favorite scripture was “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings...Psalm 17:8

Private family services will be held.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
