Becky S. Butchbach

Becky Sue (Groll) Butchbach, 73, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 1, 2025 after a courageous and inspirational fight against cancer.

Becky was born June 22, 1951 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Henry and Twila Mae Groll and grew up in Northwood, Ohio. She raised her family in Rossford, Ohio and then Marysville, Michigan before moving to Estero, Florida and most recently, Oxford, Michigan.

Becky met her husband, Gary “Butch” Butchbach in Toledo in the spring of 1980 and they were married one year later on June 13, 1981 with a sunrise ceremony at Ft. Miami Park in Maumee, Ohio. They renewed their wedding vows in 2001, celebrating 20 years of marriage, with a service and reception at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Marysville. After 23 beautiful years together, Gary preceded Becky in death on October 10, 2004 after his own battle with cancer.

Becky loved being with her family and traveling. She especially enjoyed countless family camping vacations and trips to Cedar Point and Florida. She also traveled worldwide to Iceland, Greece, England, France, Italy, Ireland, Scotland and Amsterdam. Becky loved visiting New York City at Christmas-time and visiting her family and friends in Florida, Seattle, Ohio and Michigan.

She is survived by her children, Christopher Payne, Matthew Payne, Nicole Butchbach Sweeny, Casey (Patrick) Conaton, and Jacob Butchbach; grandchildren, Olivia Payne, Jackson Payne, Emmaleigh Payne, Dalton Payne, Isabella Payne, Noah Payne, Oliver Sweeny, William Conaton, Grace Conaton, and Foster Conaton; great-grandchildren, Luca Martinez and Palmer Martinez; brothers, Rick Groll and Rob Groll; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and Gary, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Linda Wheeler and Candace Turner.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 5-8 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Michael Opfermann will officiate.

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Rick Groll, Christopher Payne, Matthew Payne, Patrick Conaton, Jackson Payne, and Dalton Payne.

Becky’s faith in God, warrior spirit, love of life, and positive attitude has inspired many throughout her journey. She leaves a beautiful legacy and lots of wonderful memories with those who knew and loved her.
