Ronnie D Smith

Ronnie Dale Smith, 84, of Clyde Township, died Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

He was born November 27, 1940 in McAndrews, Kentucky to the late Orson and Ollie Smith. After his high school graduation, Ronnie joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. He met Margaret M. Ponger through mutual friends and they fell in love and were married on January 4, 1964 in Unity Temple Church, Detroit.

Ronnie worked for Chrysler Corporation at their engine plant for over 30 years before his retirement in 1997. He had a lifelong interest in aviation and enjoyed flying model airplanes as part of the Treetoppers Club. He also had a large model train collection and enjoyed geocaching. Ronnie had a passion for music and played the guitar, bass guitar and banjo. He and his sons started the band “Runyons Branch”, and he loved making music and simply spending this time together as a family.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Margaret; sons, Ronald (Catherine) Smith and Jeffrey (Amy Tunney) Smith; grandchildren, Thomas Smith, Jared Smith (Bethanie Brown), Dana Braun, Michael Braun and Delaney Tunney; siblings, Sandra Blackburn, Judith (William) Smith, Janice (Kenneth) Smith, Jeffrey (Verna) Smith and Jennifer (Jack) Varney; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Jason A. Smith; and brother, Rodney “Neal” Smith.

A memorial event is being planned and will be announced shortly.

Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery, Clyde Township.
