Frederick McLane
Frederick George “Rick” McLane, 80, of Fort Gratiot, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
He was born March 29, 1944 in Port Huron to the late Jack and Eileen McLane. He married Janet Dellin on January 31, 1970 in Holly, Michigan.
Rick graduated from Port Huron High School in 1964 and was employed as an engineer with Wirtz Manufacturing for many years prior to his retirement. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing motorcycles, snowmobiling, sail boating, and building and flying model airplanes. His absolute favorite hobby was riding his motorcycle, and he especially enjoyed meeting his friends for Monday rides. Rick loved camping and traveling, and had visited many different countries. He lived for several years in both Florida and Puerto Rico where he found and honed his passion for fishing and scuba diving. Rick was also a member of the Blue Water Beagle Club where he won many awards for the beagles he raised, trained and trialed. In his spare time, Rick loved watching NASCAR and gardening, spending time at the Port Huron Yacht Club, and he was an excellent cook. Most of all, Rick adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren who lovingly called him “PaPa”.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet; children, Rick (Janae) McLane and Holly McLane; grandchildren, Sabrina Dunlop (Chad DeJohn), Brandi McAuley (Cheyanne Marable), Adria Vollmer McLane (Noah Vollmer) Devin McLane and Jesse McLane; great grandchildren, Avianna Harvey and Benjamin DeJohn; brother Jack McLane; brother-in-law, Alexander Dellin Jr.; special family member, Barbara Raymond; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edwin McLane; and sisters-in-law, Pat McLane and Conny Dellin; and a special family member, William Raymond.
A memorial event will be held at a later date.
