Neil J Hamann
Neil Jay Hamann, 81, of Kimball Township, a devoted husband, father and grandfather, entered the Communion of Saints and met his Saviour, Jesus Christ on Saturday, March 22, 2025.
He was born August 6, 1943 in Highland Park to the late Melvin and Helen Hamann. He married Jacqueline Augustyn on November 20, 1965 in St. Christopher Catholic Church.
Neil graduated from Marysville High School in 1962 and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1962-1966 as a Boiler Technician Fireman. This expertise led him to a long and dedicated career at Detroit Edison’s St. Clair Power Plant. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 9526, and Marysville American Legion Post 449. He enjoyed wintering in Florida, and especially being a “cast member” at Disney World.
Neil never met a stranger. He had the gift of conversation and could talk for hours about anything. Whether discussing cars, swapping stories from his Navy days or simply chatting about life, he had a remarkable way of making people feel welcome and as a result forged countless friendships over the years. Neil enjoyed exploring the country in his motorhome with his family. An avid car enthusiast with a vast knowledge of automobiles, he was eager to lend a hand and share advice. Neils legacy of hard work, kindness, love and dedication will live on through his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Jackie, who was the greatest joy in his life; three children, Michael (Stacy) Hamann, Melissa (Steven) Utter, and Dennis Hamann; honorary son, Charlie (Rachael) Goodmen; six grandchildren, Jeralin and Brendan Hamann, as well as Wyatt, Journey, Levi, Alysse, and Lucas Utter; sister, Beverly (James) Filarski; brother-in-law, Hank (Pam) Augustyn; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, one uncle and several cousins.
