Judith J Halamka
Judith June Halamka, 87, of Port Huron Township, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 6, 2025 at Stonegate Health Campus in Lapeer.
She was born on June 28, 1937 in Bowdle, South Dakota to the late Edwin “Levi” and Irene Amelia (Feichtner) Krause and graduated from Mobridge High School. Judy graduated from Augustana College in 1959 with a BA in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. She then received her master’s degree from Drake University in 1961. Judy taught at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. During her time there, she married James Henry Halamka (whom she had met at Drake) on December 26, 1961 in the Wartburg College chapel.
Judy and Jim made their first home in Port Huron, Michigan where Jim joined the Biology Department faculty of St. Clair County Community College (SC4). Judy eventually also joined the biology faculty at SC4 and taught Anatomy and Physiology to nursing students. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served in various capacities including: choir, puppet group, WELCA (women’s group), teaching Sunday School, altar guild, funeral luncheons, financial secretary, quilting group, and various council committees. Judy was also a long-time member of the Port Huron Musicale Chorus.
Judy especially enjoyed working in her garden, traveling, watching sporting events, observing wildlife, appreciating nature, working jigsaw puzzles, and sitting around a kettle fire with family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, Steven James (Suzanne) Halamka of Columbiaville, Michigan, Michael Jon Halamka (Joseph Seymour) of Baltimore, Maryland, and Eric Edwin Halamka of Paris, France; her grandchildren, Chelsea (Nick) Barden and Zachary Halamka, both of Otisville, Michigan; great-grandsons, Blake and Jay; her sister, Lorna Watkins of St. Lawrence, South Dakota; and many other dear relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Jim in 1991; and two brothers, Russell and Kenneth.
Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025 in St. Paul Lutheran Church on West Water St. with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Branden Hunt will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Port Huron Township. Pallbearers will be Judith’s family.
