Major Richard A. "Dick" Haas, Ret. USAF
Major Richard Alan “Dick” Haas, Ret. USAF, 78, of Port Huron, passed away on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
He was born July 31, 1946 in Renovo, Pennsylvania to the late Edward and Rose Haas. Richard met Mary through mutual friends and they were married on May 27, 1967 in Sandusky, Michigan. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2024 after 57 years of marriage.
Dick began his service in the U.S. Air Force in September 1964, where he worked as a Medical Technician for eight years, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. In December 1972, he was commissioned as a Medical Service Corps Officer and went on to achieve the rank of Major. He retired from military service on January 1, 1990. Following his military career, Dick joined the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Emergency Management Division, serving as a Medical Planner until his retirement in July 2006. Dick enjoyed model railroading, woodworking, fishing, and boating. He was an active member of the Port Huron Sail and Power Squadron, where he also served as the Education Officer.
He is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Rick) Evans; son, Jeffrey Haas; granddaughter, Megan (Christopher) Schieren; great grandchildren, Theodore and Maxwell Schieren; and sister, Denise (Creston) Hood. He was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Haas.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Dick will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Sandusky.
