Michael J. Rossow
Michael Joseph Rossow, 80, of Port Huron, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025. He was born April 26, 1945 in Port Huron to the late Russell and Mary “Helen” Rossow. He married Robyn Gilbert on February 6, 1971 at St. Stephen Catholic Church.
Mike graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1963 and Port Huron Junior College in 1965 before attending Western Michigan University. He became a Registered Land Surveyor and spent 28 years working with Valentine and Thomas Engineering and Land Surveying and then another 24 years with TetraTech before his retirement. Mike was knowledgeable and well-respected in the surveying world. He was extremely proud of the development projects he worked on and grateful for the relationships developed because of those projects. Mike also thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent as Chairman and a member of the Planning Commissions of both Port Huron and Port Huron Township.
Dad, or Papa Mike as he was known to his grandkids, was also an all-star sports parent/grandparent. If one of Mike’s boys or grandchildren had a sporting event, he could always be found nearby. He was a steadfast calming and supportive presence! One of his best traits was that he never offered a negative word or threw out unjustified praise. He was patient and would wait until being asked about what he thought at any particular sporting event, often saying nothing at all. When someone asked his thoughts, he would share his wisdom, offering a very truthful and poignant response of support, and creating a teachable moment. He delivered constructive criticism better than anyone, but also would offer praise when warranted. He was ALWAYS there at events and his family knew he would be. He was the epitome of a parent you wanted to be better for!
Mike is survived by his wife of 54 years, Robyn; sons, Dr. Christopher (Marnie) Rossow and Matthew (Rachel) Rossow; 4 grandchildren, Garrett, Amolia, Bryce and Britton Rossow; sister, Pat Rademacher; brother, Jim (Margaret) Rossow; sisters-in-law, Gloria Green, Carol Moulton and Terri (Harry) Fleming; brothers-in-law, Steve (Nancy) Gilbert and Budd (Nancy) Gilbert; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Ken Rademacher, John Gilbert, Lester Green and Robert Moulton.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025 at Ross Bible Church with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Steve Scott and Pastor Mike Newman will officiate.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Mike Turney, Troy Moulton, Garrett Rossow, Bryce Rossow, Mike Loxton and Jacob Gilbert.
Because of Mike’s long battle with Parkinson’s, his family would greatly appreciate memorial contributions to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation. To send condolences visit pollockrandall.com.
