Clarence R "Larry" Engmann

Clarence R. “Larry” Engmann, 100, formerly of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Eustis, Florida, peacefully entered eternal life on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

He was born February 23, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Sigurd C. and Ruth. L. Engmann. Larry married his best friend, Edwina L. “Winnie” Shafer on August 1, 1953, They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary shortly before her passing on August 26, 2014.

Larry served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Signalman Third Class. He earned his Chartered Life Underwriter certification in 1971 and worked as a Prudential Agent for 25 years in Crystal Lake, Illinois before his retirement in 1980. He and Winnie then moved to Florida and for the next 25 years, they embraced retirement-spending their days fishing, golfing, and traveling with friends. Later in life, they relocated to Port Huron, Michigan, to be closer to family. Larry was a life member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12 and a member of American Legion J. Edward Mallorey Post for over 50 years.

His memory lives on through his family: daughter, Karen Tucker; son, Bill (Chen) Engmann; three grandchildren, Katie Cox, Casey (Lisa) Tucker and James Engmann; great granddaughter, Morgan (Justin) Tilley; sister, Nancy Ceragoli; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Henry, Stanley, Anita and Sally.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 5, 2025 in Marysville United Methodist Church, Marysville, Michigan with visiting beginning at 10:00 am. The Reverend Curtis Clarke will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the Allied Veterans Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron, Michigan. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marysville United Methodist Church or DAV Chapter 12.
