Marie Hosie
Marie Hosie, 97, of St. Clair, died Sunday, June 1, 2025.
She was born March 5, 1928 in Flint to the late Peter and Amelia Pekarek. She met Robert Hosie and they were married on September 2, 1950 at First Presbyterian Church in Flint. They shared 58 years of marriage before his death in February 2009. Marie worked as a secretary for General Motors at both Oldsmobile and AC until she left to have her family. In later years she was a clerk for Fenton Township and had a freelance writer’s job for the Fenton Independent. This fulfilled her original dream of being a journalist. She also was secretary for Mundy Presbyterian Church. Marie and Bob were longstanding members of Linden, MI Masonic and Eastern Star.
She loved dancing and cherished her memories of going dancing with Bob. They originally met at a YWCA dance. Her other special memories with Bob were of the many trips she and Bob were able to take all over Michigan and most of the United States. Marie was an avid reader. She read books every week until she died. She really missed her beloved Flint Journal newspaper after she moved to St. Clair County. Family members would try to pick one up for her if they were visiting Genesee County, as well as her favorite donut from Donna’s Donuts on Bristol Rd. She claimed no one in St. Clair County could match Donna’s.
Marie was a devoted wife and mother. She made sure her family was well taken care of and tried to inspire all of her children to get a good education and she made every effort to ensure her children had a faith life. Marie was Salutatorian of the 1945 Swartz Creek Mary Crapo High School and then received an Associates’ Degree in Business from what then was known as Flint Community Junior College. She truly adored and enjoyed her grand and great grandchildren.
She is survived by three children, Pam (Jim) Petitpren, Kathleen Cunningham and Brian Hosie; four grandchildren, James (Sheri) Petitpren, Chris Kohler (Ilka), Kristen (Adam) Artnz and Lindsey (Ben) Cole; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Steve Miramonti of Rock Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Bendle Cemetery, Clayton Township.
