Vernon "Dale" Ross

Vernon “Dale” Ross, 90, of Clyde Township, died Sunday, July 20, 2025.

He was born May 27, 1935 in Kimball Township to the late Vernon and Ethel Ross.

Dale graduated from Marysville High School. He then served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1958 where he worked as a machine repairman and as a helmsman. He served on the USS Coral Sea, USS Siboney and the USS Ticonderoga. Following his time in the service, he married Twanda Richards on July 2, 1960.

He was employed with Grand Trunk Western Railroad where he was a brakeman, worked in the welding shop, and for his final two years was a conductor. He retired in 1997 after 38 years of service. Dale enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and in his younger years playing baseball. He had many fond memories from his childhood, especially with his grandparents. He also loved bowling and won the State Championship at 75 years old. Dale was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan and enjoyed all kinds of music, especially country.

Dale is survived by his children, Mark (Jill) Ross, Nancy Thomas (Eric Seaman) and Lisa (Dave) Birtles; grandchildren, Ross Thomas and Tyler (Barbara) Thomas; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Samuel Thomas; and former wife and longtime friend, Twanda. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Darwin and Duane Ross. Visitation will be held from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2025 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Shaun Laurain will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
