Charlotte M Carufel
Charlotte May (Hansen) Carufel, 97, of Marysville, Michigan, completed her life’s journey on Saturday, August 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, and will now be tending to the glorious gardens in Heaven.
She was born on May 21, 1928, in Mellen, Wisconsin, to the late Corinne and Sigurd Hansen. In 1951, she graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Home Economics and Merchandising Management-an education that would prove especially relevant as she went on to raise a large family of six, putting her knowledge to use every day. She was first and foremost a loving wife and loving mother to her six children. Her working career included a retail buyer for Hudson’s in Detroit, a teacher in St. Clair County public schools and skill center, a food service professor at St. Clair County Community College, a business systems educator for the Port Huron School of Business, and a Master Gardener. She was a longtime member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, the Marysville Knights of Columbus Council #9526 Ladies Auxiliary and the Marysville Women's Club. She was a generous volunteer, and served many people and organizations throughout her life, always willing to give her time and devotion to others.
Charlotte is survived by her children, Corinne (Gary) Wellman, Paul (Julie) Carufel, Mark (Pam) Carufel, Marjorie Battaglia, Marie (Paul) Zeman and daughter-in-law Renee Carufel; ten grandchildren, Nathan (Emily), Andy (Jill), Jake (Autumn), Holly, Erika, Joseph (fiancee Emily), Alexander, Jacquelyn, Daniel and Samantha; five great grandchildren, Jackson, Carson, Josephine, Mary and Leo; and nephew Erik Hansen. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Louis D. Carufel, in 2014; her son, Louis J. Carufel, in 2024; her son-in-law, Anthony Battaglia, in 2013; and two brothers, Rod and Tom Hansen.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2025 in St. Christopher Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend James Arwady will officiate.
Burial will be in Fargo, North Dakota.
The family prefers memorial contributions be made to Spero Pregnancy Center or St. Christopher Catholic Church.
The family wishes to thank Bluewater Hospice and Steve and Kathy Platzer, special friends and neighbors who were instrumental in allowing her to remain in her home throughout her golden years.
