John Grasl

March 25th, 1939 to August 31st, 2025

John Grasl, 86, of Clinton Township, formerly of Kimball Township, went home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2025.

He was born March 25, 1939 in Detroit to the late Mathias and Otilia Grasl and married Marlys Joan Buck on June 6, 1970 in Stevensville, Michigan.

John served in the U.S. Army from 1958-60. He was then employed as a tool and die maker, mostly in the automotive industry. John completed his career with Ford Motor Company, retiring in 1999. He was a longtime member of Hillside Wesleyan Church and the United Autos Workers (U.A.W.). John had a passion for everything to do with cars, loved watching NASCAR, and going on motorcycle rides with his wife, Marlys, and brothers. He and Marlys also enjoyed traveling and spending family time with their sons.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Marlys; two sons, Paul (Tanya) Grasl and Jason (Jessica) Grasl; six grandchildren, Scott Jr., Mercedes, Lily, Evelynn, Abel and Lincoln; one great grandchild, Elijah; an honorary daughter, Paula, and Paula’s children, Jacob, Aubrey and Ashley; two sisters, Barb (Rev. Arnie) Ratter and Esther (Willy) Schlak; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Scott Grasl; a sister, Helen; and five brothers, Matthew, Tony, David, Frank and Joe Grasl.

Funeral services will be held at Hillside Wesleyan Church at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 5, 2025 with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Nate Neihof will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
