Laura Lee Newsome, 80, of Fort Gratiot Township, died Saturday, September 13, 2025.

She was born June 6, 1945 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada to the late William and Suzanne Anderson. She married Richard Newsome on June 20, 1981 in Port Huron.

Laura graduated from Eastern Michigan University and then received her master’s degree from the University of Michigan. She began her career with the Council on Aging in 1984 as a programmer, then became the executive director in 1991. She retired in 2015 after almost 30 years of service. Laura was involved in many local organizations. The “Laura Newsome Legacy Award” presented by The Sanborn Gratiot Memorial Home, is presented each year to an individual who has improved or enriched the lives of seniors in the St. Clair County Area. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Port Huron.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Richard; children, Christine Meister (Matthew Roediger) and William (Michele) Symington; grandchildren, Austin Meister (Megan Houlihan), Chase Meister (Samantha Lloyd), Jack Meister, Elizabeth Meister, Justin Raymond (Roxanne Hughes), Jaime Raymond, Emmalee Symington and Megan Symington (Tucker McLane); siblings, Mary (Everett) Adams, John (Kim) Anderson and Susan Boutzis; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2025 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend John Huhtala will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Austin Meister, Chase Meister, Jack Meister and Tucker McLane.
