Valerie A Mason

Valerie Ann Mason, 96, of Marysville, died Monday, November 3, 2025.

She was born May 10, 1929 in Port Huron to the late William and Lenore Philp. She married William Neil Mason on February 25, 1950 in Port Huron. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2008 after 58 years of marriage.

Val graduated from Port Huron High School in 1949 and continued her education at Port Huron Junior College and Wayne State University. She taught in the Port Huron Township and Marysville School Districts for 30 years, retiring in 1986.

A lifelong member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Val taught Sunday School and was active in many community organizations. She belonged to the Alpha Delta Kappa teachers’ sorority, served on the Marysville Beautification Commission and was an Advanced Master Gardener. She also taught Body Recall classes at the YMCA, volunteered at the hospital and was a member of the Friends of the Marysville Library and the Marysville Women’s Club. She enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, sewing, quilting, biking, and playing cards.

She is survived by two sons, William Randy Mason and Richard Neil Mason; two granddaughters, Brandy Mason and Alesha (Brian) Kreiner; three great grandchildren, Cassidy Mason, Cameron Sturdevan and Harrison Kreiner; sister-in-law, Arlene Philp; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jordan Mason; two sisters, Edith Mansfield and Janet VanBuskirk; and two brothers, William (Patricia) Philp and David Philp.

A memorial visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2025 in the Marysville Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in St. John’s United Church of Christ with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Patricia Hoppenworth will officiate.
