Paul D Szparaga

Paul Douglas Szparaga, 61, of Columbus Township, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 23, 2025.

He was born December 8, 1964 in Detroit to the late Lee and Diane Szparaga. Paul met Carolynn Carnes at work and after a slow start they fell in love and were married on November 15, 1997 in St. Clair Shores.

Paul graduated from Lakeview High School and spent his career working for 3M in Detroit. He was a lifelong lover of sports - he played most of them growing up and still enjoyed golfing and fishing. He also never missed watching a football game on TV. Paul enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved bonfires in the backyard and long weekends at the beach in Port Austin with family and friends (especially the furry ones).

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol; daughter, Autumn Szparaga (Michael Wheeler); older brother, David (Mairead) Szparaga; little sister, Julie Szparaga; niece, Christina Chriss; nephew, Michael (Elaine) Szparaga; great nephew, Gavin; and wonderful friends who were more like family, including Tony and Margaret Larsh, Rob and Carla Noble, and Paul Yetter. His friends’ children, Matt, Warren, Ashlie, Jackie, Ashley, Grant, Amanda, Hailey, Celeste and Bethany became like bonus kids for Paul and Carol, and “siblings” to Autumn.

A memorial event and bonfire is being planned for Summer 2026 at the family home.
