John H Nechita

September 7th, 1934 to December 24th, 2025

John Harold Nechita, 91, of Fort Gratiot, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

He was born September 7, 1934, in Boyne City to the late Vasile and Helen Nechita. John worked in construction for several years and was truly a jack of all trades before finding a work home with Mueller Brass of Port Huron.

He had a deep love for people and never missed an opportunity to socialize, especially if it meant sitting down in a favorite restaurant and sharing meals with old friends or making new friends. He had many close friends and an open-door policy at his home, inviting anyone to come in and talk.

He loved to travel, especially if that meant visiting his grown kids scattered all over the Country.

John also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, generously offering his skills and time to help build homes and strengthen his community.

He was a familiar, smiling face at the doors of Colonial Woods Missionary Church, where he faithfully greeted and ushered visitors for many years. He was always available to help with activities and participated in many groups and events. His faith in God was unwavering.

John is survived by his five children, Tammy Nechita, Wanda Nechita, Deborah (Dan) Culp, Timothy Nechita, and April Gardner; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his son, Peter M. Nechita; his infant son, John H. Nechita; and eight brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2025, in Colonial Woods Missionary Church, with visiting beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Ann Harrington will officiate.

Burial will take place in Lakeport Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Colonial Woods Missionary Church.
