Marilyn J Meredith

January 12th, 1942 to January 3rd, 2026

Marilyn Joyce Meredith, 83, of Port Huron Twp, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 3, 2026 after a brief illness. She was born January 12, 1942 in Flint to the late Albert and Evelyn (Bradley) Mitchell. She graduated from Holly High School in 1960, and attended Michigan State University where she met Ralph. They married on January 5, 1963 at Lansing Missionary Church. After both working for Mueller Brass, Marilyn and Ralph opened one of the first H&R Block franchise offices in Michigan in 1967. This led to her becoming a district manager and satellite director, and in 1989 she started Meredith Tax Service and Meredith Financial Research.

One of Marilyn's passions was teaching. She founded Much & More Income Tax Workshops, and taught for the National Association for Tax Practitioners (NATP), as well as others. She was frequently asked to speak by many organizations and associations, and even wrote the Enrolled Agent Exam. And just as she would have it, she was teaching right to the end. Marilyn taught her last class December 16, 2025. She was one of the best. She was known for taking calls all hours of the day and night, always willing to answer questions from clients and other professionals. She loved to help and was always available.

Marilyn's teaching blended seamlessly with her love of travel. She traveled for seminars, explored the country in her 1973 GMC motorhome, aka the "orange pumpkin," visited family property (Idylmomence) in Birchwood, Wisconsin, and flew all over the world. Destination wedding? Count her in. Travel partner for a European River Cruise? Absolutely. Disney World in August? Why not? Last summer she traveled cross-country by train with Glen, Candy and David to visit their sister Arlene, in Seattle. She enjoyed going to plays and the theatre with friends, daughters and her granddaughters. Never one to say no to a game, she especially loved playing Nertz, Pedro and Hand & Foot. She shared ownership of a Centennial Farm in Holly, Michigan, owned and still worked by the Mitchell family since 1837.

Since 1963 Marilyn faithfully attended Colonial Woods Missionary Church and was deeply involved in community organizations including Camp Grace Bentley, Woman's Life Chapter 800, Compass Christian Business Alliance, and the NATP of Michigan board (former president). Due to her tireless commitment, Marilyn received many awards from NATP including Chapter Person of the Year for the Education Category and Chapter Person of the Year Overall, multiple Honor awards from NATP of Michigan, Compass Christian Business Alliance Hall of Fame for 2016, and so much more.

She is survived by her four children, Brian (Robin), Devin (Tammy), Erlinda, and Renee (Shane) Hernandez; her five grandchildren, Izac, Owen, and Alex Meredith and Kelsey and Kara Hernandez; three siblings, David, Arlene, and Glen (Candy) Mitchell; sisters-in-law Paula (Jim) Dell, Brenda Clark, Noreen Gardner, Kay (Ken) Jelinek, and Jan Price; granddogs, Iris and Ivy; and many cousins who she was close to. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph; her grandson, Caiden Hernandez; her brother, Howard Mitchell; an infant sister, Doris; and her brother-in-law, Loren Clark.
