Walter W Austin Jr.

Walter W. Austin Jr., 81, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

He was born February 13, 1944 in Detroit to the late Sarah and Walter Austin Sr. He married Patricia Ann Kane on April 23, 1993 in Warren.

A decorated veteran, Walter served two tours in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps. He worked as a mechanic for the State of New York and volunteered as a firefighter in North Patchogue, NY. After relocating to Michigan, he was employed at Berger and Sons Diesel Mechanic Shop before joining Warren Consolidated Schools as a bus mechanic. In his free time, Walter enjoyed tinkering on various projects, crafting fishing lures, woodworking, leatherworking, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife 32 years, Patricia; seven children, Tina Marie Austin, Claudine (Ray) Stone, William (Angie) Austin, Scott (Debbie) Austin, Jennifer Guilbault, Joseph (Vutha) Austin and Nicholas (Michael) DeCoopman; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and sister, Evelyn Charbeneau. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric.

Graveside services will take place at 12:00 noon on Monday, February 9, 2026 at the Allied Veterans Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Marine Corps and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
