Janice M Karner
Janice Marie Karner, 85, of Marysville, died Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
She was born May 21, 1940 in Yale, Michigan to the late Douglas and Leah Cimmer.
Janice had a master's degree in Special Education and taught fifth grade and Home Bound with the Port Huron Area School District for 27 years. She was a proud member of the Michigan Education Association, the National Education Association and Michigan Child Study Club. Janice enjoyed traveling overseas, as well as wintering in Florida for many years with her friend Mary. She was an avid quilter, and member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.
She is survived by two sons, Peter (Lee) Karner and Mark (Ann) Karner; grandchildren, Sophia and Cimmer Karner; sister, Marcia (Dick) Porte-Phillips; nephews Philip (Jessica) Porte; Ryan Porte; niece, Andrea (Jason) Fisher; great- nephew, Mitchell Porte and mom, Tracy; great-niece, Leah Fisher; great-nephew, Colton Fisher; many friends and neighbors and her valued caregiver, Shayna. Janice was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, James Porte.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026 in First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend David Gladstone will officiate.
A private burial will be in Kinney Cemetery, Clyde Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Blue Water Hospice Home.
