Gertrude Thrushman
Gertrude Martha (Masar) Thrushman, 94, of Marysville, died Friday, June 8, 2012 in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Port Huron after a courageous battle with Leukemia.
She was born March 9, 1918 in Port Huron, the first of seven children, to the late Frank and Martha Warsinski. Her first husband, Louis Masar, died March 3, 1966. She later married Barney Thrushman on October 17, 1981.
In her younger years, Gertie enjoyed shopping, dancing, sewing, collecting cookbooks, tending to flowers and her “angel garden”. She loved a little “sweet” something after meals, and always had room for ice cream. She has been a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church for over 60 years.
Gertie is survived by her husband, Barney; three children, Ronald Masar, Beverly Vansach, and Louis Masar; an ex-daughter-in-law, JoAnn Dumas; her special Cocker Spaniel, Molly; four grandchildren, Linda (Rick) Roberts, Pam Hendrick, Jeff (Natasha) Masar, and Gary (Darla) Vansach Jr; 8 great grandchildren, Stephany (Neil) Yow, Tifanie and Lena Vansach, Jerry and Jacob Hendrick, and Jeffrey, Christopher and Lauren Masar; one great great grandchild due in August; her siblings, Dorothy Rohloff, Frank (Vernita) Warsinski, Erwin (Melanie) Warsinski, and Martin Warsinski; five step-children, Gwen (Andy) Womack, Ron (Carol) Thrushman, Dale (Ruth) Thrushman, Rick Thrushman, and Vicki Thrushman; 10 step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; and 1 step great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary Vansach Sr; brothers, Arthur and Harold Warsinski; brother-in-law, Paul Rohloff; and sisters-in-law, Gloria and Rita Warsinski.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the Marysville Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Reverend John Hitzeroth of Pilgrim Lutheran Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Pallbearers will be Gertie’s grandsons and great grandsons, Gary Vansach Jr, Jeff Masar, Jeffrey Masar Jr, Christopher Masar, Jerry Hendrick, and Jacob Hendrick.
Memorials may be made to Pilgrim Lutheran Church.
