Michael J Maul
Michael J. Maul, 85, of Marysville, died Saturday, May 9, 2026.
He was born December 23, 1940 in Flint to the late John and Frances Maul. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Beth” Schmorrow on February 13, 1982 at the St. Clair Inn.
Mike graduated from Grand Blanc High School, earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Western Michigan University, and later completed post-master’s coursework at Eastern Michigan University. He played football throughout high school and college, and continued at the semi-professional level. An accomplished swimmer, Mike liked to tell the story of when he swam across the St. Clair River.
Mr. Maul was a physical education teacher with the Port Huron Area School District for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was also a beloved driver’s training instructor and coach, serving as football and wrestling coach at Port Huron High School and football coach at Fort Gratiot Middle School for six years.
Mike was a kind and generous man who always looked for ways to give back to others. He was a devoted husband and a very proud father and grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a beaming smile, and a way of making everyone around him feel loved and valued. Mike enjoyed bicycling, had a passion for history, was a gifted story-teller and writer, and loved reading, especially mysteries and history.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beth; five children, Victor (Jennifer) Maul, David (Lily) Maul, Lynn (Kevin) Maul Roche, Jeff Maul and John (Shari) Maul; nine grandchildren, Jaden, Adrian, Dylan, Devon, Tayler, Jordan, Michael, John Kevin and Rachel; three great grandchildren; brother, Patrick (Janet) Maul; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Laura Booth; two brothers-in-law, Daniel Schmorrow and David (Jan) Schmorrow; best friend, Chuck Gullickson; his Parkinson’s Foundation family; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis and Timothy Maul.
Graveside committal services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, June 22, 2026 at the Riverlawn Cemetery Columbarium, Marysville, followed by a lunch.
