Floyd H. Helmreich

August 11, 1947 to May 24, 2026

Floyd Harold Helmreich, 78, of Port Huron, died Sunday, May 24, 2026.

He was born August 11, 1947 in Bay City to the late Harold A. and Leona (Kernstock) Helmreich. He married Christine A. Studt on August 2, 1975 in Kingston, NY. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2017 after 41 years of marriage.

Floyd began his teaching career at Trinity Lutheran School and then taught for many years for the Port Huron Area School District. His passion for sharing his knowledge with kids continued with his own children and grandchildren. Always strong in his faith, Floyd was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and deeply enjoyed studying scripture. He loved witnessing to others and sharing God’s grace with the world.

Floyd’s love for gardening and plants began with the first patch he planted in sixth grade, and remained a lifelong passion. He was a member of the Port Huron Beautification Commission and the North American Lily Society, where he corresponded with fellow members and shared seeds with gardeners around the world. He could often be found crossbreeding or taking cuttings to share plants with everyone he loved. Floyd was a hobbyist and a life-long learner approaching everything with curiosity. He was a proud grandfather, encouraging each of his grandkids with his sense of humor and teasing personality.

He is survived by three children, Aaron Helmreich, Sarah (Jeremy) Dodder and Michael (Elizabeth) Helmreich; seven grandchildren, Owen Dodder, Ella Dodder, Benjamin Dodder, Michael Helmreich, Amy Helmreich, Lukas Helmreich and Anna Helmreich; sisters, Irene Hoppe and Carol Seaver; sister-in-law, Linda Helmreich; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Ella (Victor) Ferguson, Doris (David) Feinauer, and Lloyd Helmreich; and his brother-in-law, Murl Hoppe.
