Douglas W Sass
Douglas Walter “Doug” Sass, 72, of Marysville, died Friday, July 10, 2026.
He was born June 5, 1954 in St. Clair to the late Shirley and Dorothy Sass. He married Christine M. Ryan on October 5, 1984 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
Doug served in the U.S. Navy for three years and was then employed as a budget analyst with the Department of Defense for many years prior to his retirement. A lifelong learner, he was a voracious reader and had a deep appreciation for history. “Light reading” for Douglas was learning about calculus and physics. He enjoyed swimming at the YMCA, and was a sports fan, who especially enjoyed cheering on the Detroit Tigers. Doug found joy in the outdoors, spending time cross-country skiing, bicycling and taking long walks with his beloved dog, Keeley. Also a talented cook and grill master, he loved preparing meals for his family. Most importantly, Douglas treasured his family deeply and was always involved and supportive of his children’s lives and activities. He was a man of integrity and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Christine; son, Michael Sass (fiancée Marina Monoyios); daughter, Rachel Sass; sisters, Karen Klink, Cindy Rourke, Sandra Meyer, and Julie Sass; and brothers-in-law, Joseph and James Ryan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Matthew.
Private family services have been held.
