Gary L. Strunk
Gary L. Strunk, 81, of Fort Gratiot, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 26, 2026.
He was born July 14, 1945 in Oneida, Tennessee to the late Conley and Geneva Strunk. He married Linda Williams on July 15, 1967 in New Baltimore and they shared a life of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Gary was a proud United States Army veteran who served his country with honor and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of New Baltimore, where he found fellowship and community. He believed in giving back and devoted 15 years to coaching Little League, helping young athletes develop not only their athletic skills, but also confidence, teamwork and sportsmanship. Even after his coaching days ended, he remained a passionate advocate for the league and its continued success.
Gary found great joy in the simple things in life: spending time with his family and friends, keeping his lawn meticulously cut and tinkering in the garage, where there was always a project waiting for his attention. He was a remarkable storyteller who could captivate a room with his memories, humor and colorful tales. Known for his sharp wit, infectious energy and unmistakable cantankerous streak, those who knew him best understood that beneath his gruff exterior was a generous man with a kind heart who loved deeply, cared fiercely and was always there for the people who mattered most.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Linda; five children, Gary (Lisa) Strunk, Danette (Tim) Parrish, Reed (Denise) Strunk, Jason (Elissa) Strunk and Philip (Jenni) Strunk; 15 cherished grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Carl, Sheila, Ken, Rose Marie, Pam, and Linda; and many extended family members and dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dennis, Joan, Ray, Kay and Danny.
And in true Gary fashion, we can imagine him offering one final message:
“I’m out of here- this is ridiculous”
