Katherine M "Kathy" Barbetta

Katherine Mary Barbetta, 83, of Fort Gratiot, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

She was born on January 29, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Clement and Bernice Hunsanger. Katherine married Angelo Barbetta in 1962 in Detroit and they were married for almost 60 years before he preceded her in death on September 19, 2023.

Kathy was a loving wife, wonderful mother and grandmother, and a caring friend to many. A beautician by trade, she worked at several local salons and also enjoyed giving back to the profession by teaching at the Virginia Farrell Beauty School. She was a former member of Holy Innocents Church in Roseville, where she and Angelo made many lifelong friends.

Kathy had many wonderful “best friends” that she loved spending time with. They gathered often and travelled up north or to Irish Hills. She also very much enjoyed shopping.

Kathy will be deeply missed by her daughters, Theresa Rice, Christine Tolomei, and Kelly Sturdivent; sons-in-law, Robert Rice, Gregory Tolomei, and Shawn Sturdivent; grandchildren, Dina Tolomei, Nicole Broughton, Corey Tolomei, Derick Johnson, and Zachary Sturdivent; siblings, Mary Cusumano, Sue Valenti, and Alan Hunsanger; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Ray, and Mike Hunsanger.

A memorial service is being planned and will be announced.

Katherine and Angelo will be inurned together at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan at a later date.
