Floyd C Swoffer

Floyd Clarence Swoffer, 97, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Blue Water Hospice House in Marysville, Michigan, with his daughter-in-law, Kathy, by his side.

Floyd was born on July 26, 1929 in Michigan to the late Ernest and Inez Leona (Erbe) Swoffer. A lifelong hard worker, Floyd spent over 45 years at Port Huron Paper and was extremely proud of his work. Mechanically inclined and always interested in how things worked, he took pride in being the person they called when a machine wasn't working and needed to be fixed.

Floyd married his childhood sweetheart, Betty Lee Wagner on November 25, 1950. They shared 70 years of marriage and raised their two children, Dennis and Lucy. Following his retirement, Floyd and Betty moved to Florida, where they enjoyed many years together. Florida became home to Floyd, who loved the warm weather and was happiest tinkering with or “fixing” something.

Throughout his life, Floyd enjoyed cars, motorcycles, building dune buggies and woodworking. He made grandfather clocks, cuckoo clocks and unique clocks from large slices of wood. He also worked alongside his son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Kathy, in their family business, D.F.D. Custom T-Shirts.

As hard as Floyd worked, he also loved to joke and have fun. He was a lifelong jokester known for getting unsuspecting people wet with the hose-both at home and at work. Family will especially remember summer gatherings around the backyard pool on Harvey Road where Floyd loved swimming, teasing everyone, throwing people in the pool and giving the kids rides on his motorcycles and dune buggies.

That playful side continued with the younger generations. Floyd became affectionately known as “Georgie,” a nickname that started while joking with the kids and simply stuck. He loved to tease, tickle and play and remained a kid at heart throughout his life.

Floyd could be stubborn and wasn't afraid to tell you exactly what he thought, but he was also generous and willing to help when someone needed him. In his later years, he loved his coffee, hugs and kisses, old country music and old Westerns-especially “Gunsmoke”, usually with the television turned up loud enough for everyone to hear.

Above all, Floyd loved his family and especially his wife, Betty. His final years brought tremendous loss with the passing of his daughter, Lucy Lambert, in 2019; Betty in February 2021; and his son, Dennis “Denny” Swoffer Sr., in December 2021. His family finds comfort in believing that after 97 years, Floyd is finally at peace and reunited with those he loved so dearly.

Surviving to cherish Floyd's memory are his daughter-in-law, Kathleen “Kathy” Swoffer; half-sister, Sue Wilkinson; grandchildren, Diana (Todd) Pack, Dennis (Tina) Swoffer Jr., Floyd (Amy) Lambert, Chris (Christine) Lambert and James Lambert; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

The family would also like to recognize Floyd's devoted caregiver and friend, Janet Gerlach, who cared for him with kindness and compassion during the last four years of his life and became like family to him.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Inez Leona (Erbe) Swoffer; his beloved wife, Betty; daughter, Lucy; son, Denny; son-in-law, Joseph Lambert Jr.; grandson, Joseph Lambert III; his other siblings; and other family members and friends.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family would prefer memorial contributions be made to Blue Water Hospice House or to a charity of the donor's choice in Floyd's memory.

Floyd lived 97 years filled with hard work, family, laughter and more than a little mischief. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the generations of family he leaves behind.
