Shirley E Gragowski

Shirley Elaine Gragowski, 101, of Marysville, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2026.

She was born on December 16, 1924 to the late William and Hazel Dawson, the eldest of their five children. She married her childhood sweetheart, Norbert Gragowski, on September 2, 1944 in Sparta, Wisconsin, before he shipped off to WWII. Norbert preceded her in death on December 20, 2006 after 62 years of marriage.

Shirley worked as the head bookkeeper at A&P for many years. When her daughters were young, despite being a working mother, she was active in leading their girl scout troops. A lifelong Episcopalian, she was instrumental in the founding the All Saints Episcopal Church in Marysville and the eventual construction of the church building. In retirement, she and Norbert spent many winters in Thonotosassa, Florida. Shirley enjoyed camping with her family, reading, knitting, crocheting, and polka dancing with her husband. After his death, Shirley continued traveling with her sister, and especially loved their trips to the Florida Keys.

She is survived by her four daughters, Elaine (John) Steiner, Janet (Tim) Clayton, Carolyn (Dennis) Wilton and Vicky (Mark) Roberts; nine grandchildren, Aniesha (Brian) Brooks, Tyler (Jody) Clayton, Lindsey Brown, Travis (Samantha) Clayton, Spencer (Dawn) Clayton, Justin (Andrea) Wilton, Barbara Lapp, Bradley Wilton, and Sara Roberts; and 13 great grandchildren, Emilie, Kyle, Connor, Eleanor, George, Isla, Maggie, Max, Ella, Tanner, Gabe, Jocelyn and Hanna.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings, William (Jean), Bette, Charles (Evelyn) and Maryalice.

Private family services will be held and burial will be with her beloved Norbert in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville.
