Joan M Shirk

Joan Marie Shirk, 89, of Casco Township, died Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

She was born November 23, 1936 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to the late Joseph and Anne Hipp and moved to Michigan with her husband and young family in the 1970s.

Joan loved playing cards, specifically pinochle and poker, and trying her luck at the casino. She also enjoyed her winters spent in Key West, Florida, riding around in the golf cart and going to parties. More than anything else, Joan loved and was very proud of her family.

She is survived by five children, Cindy (Al) Leone, Pam Cooper, Kimberly (Frank) Piltz, Jay Shirk and Ronald Shirk; 13 grandchildren, Roger (Amy), Cathy (Dennis), Amanda (Victor), Timmy (Tia), Randal (Jessica), Jenny (Pete), Ashley (Josh), Amber (Jeremy), Brittany, Grace (Justin), Maranda (Brendin), RJ and Jacinda; 17 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a brother, Joe (Anne) Hipp; brother-in-law, Richard Shirk; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Kathleen Henry. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Wayne “Pug” Shirk; a son, Wayne Shirk Jr.; and her “bonus son”, Daniel “Danny” Steele.

Visitation will be 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Marysville Funeral Home.

Graveside services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026 at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley.
