Mary A Reed
September 27th, 1935 to January 6th, 2013
MARY ALICE REED, daughter of the late Florence Alberta Johnson and Pinky Moore was born September 27, 1935 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Mary Alice or May, as she was fondly referred to by her family, was a caring, compassionate woman who was devoted to God and her family. On December 26th, 2004, she received Christ in her life and in January of 2005 she was baptized. Mary Alice loved her family and was a caregiver for her ailing sister and mother up until their subsequent deaths. In addition to caring for loved ones in the twilight of their lives, she also thoroughly enjoyed the lively celebrations for holidays and birthdays throughout the years. She would beat you down in a game of spades, give out a few tongue lashings, yet made sure you ate well, all with a mischievous grin.
Mary Alice was a very proud woman and hard worker. She worked at the Renaissance Center until she retired. She valued education and accomplished one of her biggest goals by completing her coursework to receive her GED. When Mary Alice was not caring for a relative or cooking up one of her many delicious meals, she enjoyed her favorite pastimes of either playing spider solitaire and Bejeweled or watching action movies with her favorite actor Steven Seagal.
Mary was preceded in death by a host of loving relatives: Hortense Hannah (grandmother); Florence Johnson (mother); Pinky Moore (father); Nelson Johnson (stepfather); Walter Marsh (uncle); Christine Eggleston (aunt); Arthur Marsh (brother); Raymond Carter (brother); Eleanor Long (sister); Lavelle Long (nephew); Laura Cox (niece); Lancine Carter (daughter-in-law); Artura Carter (granddaughter); Oglethorpe Turner (former spouse); and John Henry Reed (husband).
On January 6, 2013, Mary Alice departed this life surrounded by her family in her home. She leaves to cherish in her memory her daughter, September Price (Port Huron); sons, Arthur Carter and Oglethorpe Turner II (Areta) [both of Detroit] and John Henry Reed II (Inkster); grandsons, Jewan Reed (Shaunna) [Port Huron] and Otis Martin (Detroit); granddaughters, Otise Reed (Houston, TX), Joi Price (Port Huron) and Otavia Martin (Detroit); sisters, Caroline Johnson Moore (Romulus) and Loretta Robinson (Detroit); great-grandchildren, Kyleigh, Jewan Jr. (JJ), and Neelie (Jewan), Leon (Otis) and Aniva (Otavia); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. There were many special people in Mary's life. If, due to their grief, the family has neglected to name someone, they are truly sorry and hope everyone will understand.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation from 11 a.m. to time of service. Memorials may be made to Blue Water Hospice House.
