Ronald G Gurnsey

October 20th, 1941 to January 11th, 2013

Ronald Garth Gurnsey, Sr., 71, of Port Huron, went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2013 and was reunited with his loving grandmother, Myna Gurnsey, parents, Garth and Mayme Gurnsey; brother, Gerald Gurnsey; son-in-law, Edward Brabaw; and beloved dogs, Duke, Princess, and his most loyal companion, Tom-A-Hawk. He passed away in his home with his family by his side after a long, courageous battle.

He was born October 20, 1941 in Port Huron. He married Susanne Margaret Roskey on May 16, 1964.

Mr. Gurnsey joined the U.S. Armed Forces on November 17, 1958 and served as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged from both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserve on April 24, 1975. He then worked for St. Clair Rubber Company and was a foreman and vice president of Local #47 URW. After the rubber company closed, he worked for United Technologies as a line leader and chairperson of the UAW until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Charles Hammond Post 8.

Mr. Gurnsey was an extremely knowledgeable person who loved life. He enjoyed tending his garden and apple trees, and loved cooking and canning. He was a talented singer and guitarist, often "lighting up" the family gatherings with his musical talents. He had a unique way of making each one of his children and grandchildren feel the most loved.

He is survived by his ex-wife and forever loyal friend, Susanne Gurnsey; five daughters, Roxanne Lojuk, Trina Brabaw, Selina (Greg) Maniez, Jana (Paul) Eagen, Myna (Remmy) Reynolds; two sons, Ronald (Jeni) Gurnsey II and Jason (Jennie) Gurnsey; grandchildren, Stephen, Lindsey, Justin, Carrie, Katie, Gregory, Dennis, Janae, Falicia, Jason, Remy, Kayley, Kayla, Reece, Lacey, Rhett, Peyton, Nyah and Drew; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Michael (Barbara) Gurnsey and Mark (Rhonda) Gurnsey; a sister, Dian (Terry) DeWalt; several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and two very dear cousins, Bob and Bobbi

Gurnsey.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home. The Reverend Max Amstutz will officiate.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council. Pallbearers will be Ronald Gurnsey II, Jason Gurnsey, Remmy Reynolds, Paul Eagen, Greg Maniez and Gregory Maniez II.

Memorials may be made to the Leader Dogs for the Blind.
