Velma Kress
Velma Jean Kress, 87, of Port Huron, died Monday, January 21, 2013.
She was born January 4, 1926 in Port Huron to the late Alger and Saloma Mudge. She married Donald Kress on August 9, 1947 in Port Huron. He died December 5, 1973.
Mrs. Kress was a registered nurse with Mercy Hospital for 30 years, serving as Nursing Supervisor for most of those years and retiring in 1996. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Methodettes, Eastern Star Masonic Temple and Women's Life Chapter 809. She was a lifelong member of the Girl Scouts.
She is survived by two daughters, Hope (Bill) Vernier and Pamela Kress; two sons, Stephen (Kelly) Kress and beloved caregivers, Dale (Sandy) Kress; seven grandchildren, Don Gardner, Donald Kress II, Scott Kress, Stephanie Betlinski, Brandy Mendoza, Lisa White and Theresa Snider; 18 great grandchildren; and a special niece, Joyce Stryker.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 in First United Methodist Church. The Reverend William Wright will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Wales Township. Pallbearers will be Don Gardner, Donald Kress, Scott Kress, Paul Betlinski, Dan White and Forrest Schumacher.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Velma J. Kress Nursing Scholarship at E & A Credit Union.
