Michael W. Gkekas, 79, of Marysville, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013.
He was born July 27, 1933 in Detroit to the late William and Helen Gkekas. He married Mary Dee Brown on March 2, 1964 in Dothan, Alabama.
Mr. Gkekas was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was always supportive of his family in their many pursuits in life. He was a teacher and coach for 38 years prior to his retirement from the Marysville School District. He served in the U. S. Air Force, was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame and was a member of the Port Huron High School 1950 Basketball Team that is in the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dee; three children, Gregory (Stacey) Gkekas, David Gkekas and Deanne (Tim) Spencer; and six grandchildren, Paige, Madison and Casey Gkekas, Carley, Timothy and Dean Spencer.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2013 in the Marysville Funeral Home with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Marysville Athletics.
