Daryl L Sexton

Daryl Lynn Sexton, 57, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Ruby, died Sunday, February 17, 2013.

She was born on July 14, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Donald and Elora Shirey. She married Wayne K. Sexton on September 5, 1975 in New Baltimore, MI.

Daryl grew up in the Harrison Township area and graduated from L’Anse Creuse High School in 1973. She attended Wayne State University and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education in December of 1976. She was soon after hired by Yale School District and during her career, returned to Grad school to obtain her Master’s Degree from Michigan State University. Daryl, while teaching, touched many lives for 26 years, before retiring to pursue other interests.

After retirement, Daryl volunteered at Port Huron Hospital and additionally clowned for Red Cross as “Brightining T. Clown.” She loved working with children, teaching, socializing, camping, kayaking, walking on the beach and being near water. Her favorite thing was spending time with her beloved family and friends. After Wayne retired in December of 2011, they moved to Windmill Village in Punta Gorda, Florida, where they made many new special friends.

Family was very important to Daryl. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Wayne; an affectionate daughter, Lynn; cherished brother and sisters, Don (Sandy) Shirey, Doreen (Mark) Weisgerber, Deanna (Jim) Clark; caring mother-in-law, Rita Sexton; dear sisters-in-law, Mona (Bob) Harnden and Donna Kidd; brother-in-law, John (Glenda) Sexton;special cousin, Chris (Kelly) Shirey; doting uncle, Warren Shirey; as well as many adored nieces and nephews, including a wonderful nephew, Jason (Angel) Kidd.

She was preceded in death by her son, Bryant, in 2012.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013 in North Street United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. The Reverend William P. McBride will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to North Street United Methodist Church. Local arrangements are by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
