James L. Hills, 69, of Marysville, died Sunday, March 17, 2013 at home after a long illness.
He was born June 8, 1943 in Port Huron to the late John and Helen Hills. He married Joan M. Quant Shiland on November 25, 1972 in Port Huron. She died February 24, 2005.
Mr. Hills was a very talented person. He was a mechanic and engine builder for Yamaha, a registered AMA motorcycle racer and was employed for many years with Paul Rivard Contracting. He was also a builder, electrician, drywaller and all around handyman. He was a member of the Marysville High School Class of 1963 and the Sons of the American Legion Post 449. He served for many years with the St. Clair County Sherriff's Department as a special deputy.
He is survived by four children, Brenda (Carey King) LaVere of Roseville, Sheila (Andre Bernier) Shiland of Lexington, Harry (Jody) Shiland of Port Huron and Tonia Hills of Lexington; six grandchildren, Jim, Shanon, Jennifer, Shyanne, Shane and Madison; six great grandchildren, Tess, Kavius, Cloe, Jimmy, Blake and Celsey; his brother, Eugene "Butch" (Judy) Hills; three sisters, Dorothy Kennedy, Mary (Jack) Cook and Sally Turck; sister-in-law, Lee Ann Hills; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jackie and Patrick Hills, and brothers-in-law, Charles Kennedy and Stanton "Bud" Turck, Jr.
A service of remembrance followed by a luncheon will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2013 in the Marysville American Legion Post 449.
Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the James L. Hills Memorial Fund at Flagship Credit Union, 1814 10th Street. Arrangements are by Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
