Frederick W Hyslop
Frederick W. Hyslop, 85, of Marysville, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
He was born June 22, 1927 in Flint to the late Fred and Elvira Hyslop. He graduated from Vassar High School and joined the U.S. Navy in time for the surrender of Japan. He served in the Pacific on a mine sweeper.
After his discharge from the Navy, he attended Michigan State College and graduated from the School of Engineering in Metallurgy. Fred worked for Saginaw Steering Gear, International Nickel and Greenville Products, among others. After his retirement, he took a part time job as Oakfield Township Treasurer, which he continued for nine years. He enjoyed remodeling, was a flight instructor and received his APT license at 78 years old. He was Chaplain for the Greenville American Legion Post 101 before moving to Marysville and joining Marysville American Legion Post 449.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte; five children, Frederick (Marion) Hyslop Jr., David (Carole Lynne) Hyslop, Thomas (Susan) Hyslop, Lori (Mike) Leitz and Julie (Joseph) Kimmey; seven step children; 23 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marjorie and Betty.
Mr. Hyslop's body was donated to Michigan State University. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2013 in the Marysville Funeral Home. The Rev. Max Amstutz will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Inurnment will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Okemos.
