Paul Martin
Paul Martin, 85, of Lakeport, died Friday, April 26, 2013.
He was born May 9, 1927 in Toledo, Ohio, the son of the late Hugh and Donnah Martin. He married Erika Templin on October 9, 1948 in Dundee, MI after he brought her over from Berlin, Germany.
Mr. Martin graduated from Denby High School in Detroit. He then joined the U.S. Army and was lucky to join an Army band as their trumpet player. This was perfect, as he loved music, especially jazz and popular music. When he returned to the States, Paul attended Walsh Institute of Accounting and became a successful real estate broker for 40 years. He began his career in Wyandotte and then came to Port Huron, where he retired 10 years ago. Paul served at Lakeshore Presbyterian Church in many capacities including his last position as Elder. He always let his Christianity show in both his life and his work. He was also a wonderful father to his three children.
Music and sports, especially baseball, were the love of his life - right after his wife of 64 years, Erika.
He is survived by his wife, Erika; his three children, Donna Lee Martin of Shelby Township, Terry Lynn Shinkai of Fort Gratiot and James Paul (Linda) Martin of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Gregory (Jennifer) Short, Rebecca LaRose and Blake Short; and three great grandchildren, Cody, Chance and Breanna.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Dr. William Wingrove will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Presbyterian Church.
