Raymond Davis

Raymond H. Davis, 74, of Clyde Township, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at his home with his family by his side after a very brave battle with cancer.

He was born September 7, 1938 in Port Huron to the late Clarence and Mae Davis of Smiths Creek. He married Barbara Ann Thompson on April 15, 1961 at the Marysville Free Methodist Church.

Raymond attended Kimball Schools and graduated from Marysville High School in 1959. He played football, ran track, and received the Koehler Award. At age 15, he earned his Eagle Scout from Kimball Township’s Explorer Post 47. Ray served in the Armed Forces from 1962-1964. He completed basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, and then served in the Army Reserves. He worked 30 years at Prestolite Wire, 7 at KOA and then part-time for the DNR before “retiring” again in 2002.

Raymond was a gardener, an avid hunter and fisherman and loved fishing trips to Cedarville with his wife. He enjoyed bus trips, cruises and traveling with friends. He once bowled at the Bombshelter and more recently on a Senior League at Port Huron Lanes. He loved golfing and being on the senior Grand Trunk Golf League. He was a Boy Scout volunteer, umpired baseball, coached soccer, loved hockey and treasured good books and movies. Most of all, he cherished time with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara; three children, Robert of Fort Gratiot, Richard of Clyde, and Rachelle (Jack) Nogueira of Sarnia, Ontario; three grandchildren, Hunter Davis, Isabelle Nogueira, and Luke Nogueira; three sisters, Dorothy Humphrey, Violet Owens and Betty Luther; three sisters-in-law, Pat Davis, Judy (Jim) Kzinowek and Diane (Dan) Hickey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene, Edwin, and Norman; a sister, Hattie Wildie; a grandson, Gabriel Nogueira; four brothers-in-law, Paul Humphrey, Don Wilde, Harold Owens, and Loren Luther.

Visitation will be 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013 in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Woodrow Nelson of Columbus Bible Church will officiate.

Burial will be in Caswell Cemetery, Kimball Township. Pallbearers will be Raymond’s nephews: Pat Owens, Greg Owens, Jim Davis, Gary Davis, Dennis Davis, Alan Thorpe, and Andy Klassen. Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.

Memorials may be made to the National Foundation for Cancer Research, the American Lung Association, Blue Water Hospice.
