R. Emmet Hannick

R. Emmet Hannick, 72, of St. Clair, died unexpectedly on Monday, September 30, 2013.

He was born May 10, 1941, in Detroit to the late Charles and Mary Eleanor Hannick. He married Anne Marie Nichols on December 29, 1989 in St. Clair Shores.

Mr. Hannick graduated from the University of Detroit Law School in 1970. White attending law school, he taught at Brother Rice. Following law school, he clerked for Michigan Supreme Court Justice Thomas G. Kavanaugh.

He entered into private practice in 1972 and during his career also served as a special investigator for the Michigan Attorney General’s Grievance Committee and Supreme Court Committee on Standard Civil Jury Instructions. He was a member of the Macomb County Bar Assoc., St. Clair County Bar, Michigan Trial Lawyers Assoc., and the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan.

Emmet was a man of high integrity who was always willing to help those in need. He was a Eucharistic Minister and for many years attended spiritual retreats at the Manresa Jesuit Retreat House.

He was also a proud Irishman and enjoyed golfing.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Marie; three daughters, Jennifer (Edward) Walsh, Elizabeth (Luca) Bizzo and Patricia (Michael) Dinverno; two stepsons, Dean Wessel and Rob Nichols; eight grandchildren, Abigail, Andrew and Natalie Walsh, Nicolo Bizzo, Ava and Angelo Dinverno, Kyle and Morgan Wessel; two sisters, Mary Jo (Alexander) Pawluk and Peggy Hannick; a brother, James (Kit) Hannick; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, in the Marysville Funeral Home, 1200 Michigan Ave. Marysville.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in St. Christopher Catholic Church, Marysville with visitation from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass. The Reverend Arthur Baranowski will officiate.

Inurnment will be in the Riverlawn Columbarium.

Memorials may be made to Mid City Nutrition or the Manresa Jesuit Retreat House.
