Richard R Kring
Richard R. “Dick” Kring, 83, went to Glory on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 following a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family. He is now free of the bondage of his earthly body and has moved on to eternity with his heavenly Father, by the Saving Grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
He was born on January 19, 1930 in Findlay, Ohio to the late Leonard L. and Ruth A. Kring.
Dick graduated from Findlay High School in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Margaret L. Pruitt in a Sunrise Service on Easter Sunday, April 5, 1953 at the Findlay College Chapel.
Dick worked for Cooper Tire and Rubber Co. in both Findlay, Ohio and Auburn, Indiana. In 1968 he moved to Port Huron. He was employed for 33 years at Wirtz manufacturing, retiring in 2001. He was also a member of Colonial Woods Missionary Church for over 35 years.
In 2001, he earned a patent for a Rubber Mold Cold Runner System. He also received “The Chemical Research, Development and Engineering Center Distinguished Service Award” from the U.S. Army in 1992 for the development of a special purpose chemical and biological protective mask.
He greatly enjoyed flying after earning his pilot’s license in 1948. He also enjoyed commercial flying. He was thrilled to have flown on the Concorde from Paris to New York. He also took a ride in a B-17 “Flying Fortress”, a P-51 “Cadillac of the Sky”, plane glider and a hot-air balloon. Dick loved the poem “High Flight” by John Gillespie Magee, Jr. and has now “slipped the surly bonds of earth…put out his hand and touched the face of God.”
Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret L. Kring; daughters, Cherie Cole, Jennifer (Doug) Parsons, Diane Kring, Janice (David) Wagner, Debra Kring and Susan Taylor, all of Port Huron; son, Michael (Laurie) Kring of Elkland, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Haley (Zane) Stone, Alison Cole, Jill (Dennis) Daly, Julie Parsons, Carlie (Chris) Strauchman, Tony Kring, Cindy (Dave) Taube, Heidi (Sean) Serraguard, Wendy Kivel, Adam Kring, Aaron (Tiffany) Kring, Daniel Kring, Rachelle Wagner, Andrew Wagner, Shawn (Melissa) Taylor and Nicole Taylor; great grandchildren, Dalton, Bradley Richard, Ava, Maya, Henry, Claire, Asher, Brooklyn, Justin and Trey; and his brother, Donald L. Kring of Findlay, Ohio.
Visiting hours will be from 2-6 pm Sunday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, October 28, 2013 in Colonial Woods Missionary Church with visiting one hour prior to the service. Rev. Stanley Liechty will officiate. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery. Military honors will be under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
