Clarence E Washburn
Clarence E. Washburn, 101, of Marysville, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013.
He was born May 1, 1912 in Port Huron to the late Curtis and Olive (Willsie) Washburn. He married Dorothy E. Ernst on July 21, 1934 in Port Huron. She died in April 2006.
Mr. Washburn retired November 17, 1969 from Sears, Roebuck and Company after 33 years as a department manager. He was a Port Huron High School and trade school graduate. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and did a tour in the Pacific on the mine sweeper YMS 2. Mr. Washburn was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Port Huron, a committee man for Boy Scout Troop 18 and an officer for the UCT United Community Travelers Insurance for many years. He and Dorothy wintered in Bradenton, Florida for 13 years. Clarence very much enjoyed visits from friends and family. He also was an avid Tiger fan and would get upset if the television stations changed so that he had to call his daughter to find out which ones to turn to.
He is survived by a daughter, Carol (Larry) Miller of Port Huron; two sons, David (Diana Washburn of Corona, California and Brian (Pat) Washburn of Marysville; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, and step great great grandchildren; and a sister, Bertha Barr of Eastpointe; and a good friend, Brenda Sparling. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Hazel Kroll and Betty LeDuc.
Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday in the Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Daniel Bakay will officiate.
Burial will be in Riverlawn Cemetery, Marysville. Pallbearers will be Steve Miller, Randy Washburn, Paul Bartle, Geoff Lewandowski, Mike Lewis and Jim Washburn. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Rock, Bryan Ciesielski and Chris Miller. Graveside military honors will be under the auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Water Hospice Home, Visiting Nurses Association or First Baptist Church of Port Huron.
