Dora L Johnson
A strong, caring soul has left this life. Dora Lee Johnson, had the strength to overcome several illnesses that attacked her body, time after time. She faced many hurdles and battles but decided she had fought enough, she knew this life was just her journey and not her destination. Dora transitioned from this life on February 22, 2014. Dora Lee (Greer) Johnson was born on June 24, 1937, in Lexington Mississippi, to the late John Henry and Classie Elizabeth Greer. Dora was a member of Sweet Kingdom Church of God in Christ in Mississippi. She married the love of her life, Roosevelt Johnson on December 27, 1953 and to this union they were blessed with eight children. They moved to Michigan and began to raise their family. They worshiped in New Haven and Dora received the Holy Ghost under the leadership of the late Bishop Hunt. She worked beside her husband and was instrumental in establishing Founding Bethlehem Temple, she was one of the last Founding members in Port Huron. Dora was the first secretary at Bethlehem Temple and served in that capacity faithfully under the leadership of the late Elder Smith, the late Bishop Hunt, the late Elder Marshall and the late Bishop Oates. In the private sector, Dora worked at Tasty Barbeque, Michigan National Bank and Port Huron Hospital, in her later years she devoted her time to being a loving wife and mother. Dora, better known as 'Momma Johnson' was passionate about family, she raised not only her children but a slew of church and neighborhood kids. She was known for giving nicknames to her children's friends on a regular basis, so you could forget being called by your birth name. Dora loved to cook and open her home to people, it was the neighborhood house. If you stopped by the house on the corner you could count on being fed and a place to stay. She didn't let her children stray too far from home, she allowed them to have their friends over on a regular basis. You could always find someone hanging out at the house. She later shared with us that it was one of her ways of keeping track of us. She was aware of and could control what was happening in her own home. She was known throughout the city as the cake lady, for her carrot and pound cakes. And she was by far one of the greatest fishermen that ever lived. She loved fishing , just being on the lake, near the water made her happy. Her husband and children often teased her by saying "Dora the fishes are biting!" Dora Lee Johnson was proceeded in death by her father, John Henry Greer, her husband Roosevelt Johnson, her mother in-law Naomi Johnson, her brother Roy Greer, brother in-law CW Johnson and son Mark Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Classie E.
