Norman R "Nibby" Langolf

Norman Richard Langolf, better known to those who loved him as Nibby, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in Port Huron Hospital. Nibby’s health had been in decline for the past few years but he still lived with courage and dignity and found something to laugh about every day.

Nibby was born to the late Dorothy and George Langolf on September 8, 1933 on the family farm in Wales, Michigan. He was one of 12 children and the youngest son. He graduated from Port Huron High School in January 1952. Nibby was active at Our Saviour Lutheran Church as a Sunday school teacher, secretary on the church council, choir member and president of the Walther League, where he met his wife, Mary Lou Alliston. They married on October 1, 1960 in Marysville.

Nibby went to work at Mueller Brass after high school and then served proudly in the United States Army as a Military Police Officer. After discharge, he returned to Port Huron and to Mueller Brass, where he was employed for 44 years until his retirement in 1995. He was active in church softball and bowling leagues for many years, and an avid golfer. He coached Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams along with Kiwanis flag football and basketball teams. He was a 22-year member of Port Huron Little Theater where he was a producer and group favorite and earned the nickname “Mr. Logistics.” He was a member of the Port Huron Beautification Committee and was the 2004 Volunteer of the Year. He also served many years as a volunteer with Mid City Nutrition.

He was a good and honorable man with a great sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, sibling and brother-in-law. Nibby’s family was the most important thing in the world to him and he was deeply loved by everyone.

Nibby is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lou; two sons, Mark and Lena of Everett, WA and Tim and Judi of Port Huron. He was loved dearly by his three grandchildren, Alina (Cathy Murray), Jackson (Erin Stockwell) and Lucas Langolf. He is also survived by brothers, John (Wanda) and Sylvester Langolf; sisters, Noreen Hinchen, Selma (Bill) Redpath and Judy Avers; in-laws, Lois Langolf and Tom and April Alliston; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends, especially “The Clique.”

Nibby was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Arthur Alliston; his siblings and their spouses, Kate and Bernard Blimke, Walter, Esther and Wayne Phippen, William, Victor, and Lorraine and Elton Johnston and Gus Hinchen.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday in Pollock-Randall Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in Pilgrim Lutheran Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Reverend John W. Hitzeroth will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army.

Inurnment will be in Allied Veterans Cemetery in the spring.
